How we handle and protect your information
Last Updated: January 2024
Look, we get it - privacy policies can be a slog to read through. But here at Onyx Forge Quinthale, we're pretty serious about keeping your info safe and sound. We've tried to keep this straightforward and honest about what we collect, why we need it, and how we use it.
When you're booking a stay or signing up for one of our blacksmith workshops, we'll need some basic stuff from you. Nothing weird, just the usual:
We're not in the business of being creepy with your data. Everything we collect has a purpose:
Processing your room bookings, workshop registrations, and keeping track of your preferences so we can make your stay memorable.
Sending you confirmation emails, updates about your stay, and occasionally letting you know about special events or forge workshops.
Keeping our property secure and ensuring everyone's safe during forge activities and mountain adventures.
Understanding how guests interact with our services so we can keep getting better at what we do.
Yeah, we use cookies - and we're not talking about the kind from our restaurant (though those are pretty good too). These little digital trackers help us remember your preferences and understand how folks navigate our site. Most browsers let you control cookies through their settings if you want to manage them yourself.
We use both session cookies (which disappear when you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which stick around to remember you next time). Nothing sinister, just making things smoother for your next visit.
We take security seriously around here - kind of like how we take safety seriously in the forge. Your payment information is encrypted using industry-standard SSL technology, and we've got firewalls and security measures in place to keep the bad guys out.
That said, nothing's 100% foolproof on the internet. We do our absolute best, but we can't guarantee complete security. If you ever notice anything suspicious, shoot us a message right away at reservations@onyxforgequinthale.info.
We're not in the business of selling your data to random companies. That's just not our style. However, there are a few situations where we might need to share your info:
Anyone we work with is bound by confidentiality agreements and can only use your info for the specific purpose we've authorized.
It's your data, and you've got rights. Here's what you can do:
Request a copy of the personal information we've got on file for you.
Update or correct any info that's outdated or wrong.
Ask us to delete your data (subject to legal requirements).
Unsubscribe from marketing emails anytime (there's always a link at the bottom).
Get your data in a portable format to take elsewhere.
Object to certain types of data processing we're doing.
Since we're based in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, we comply with Canadian privacy legislation including PIPEDA (Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act). This means we follow some pretty strict rules about how we collect, use, and protect your personal information. If you've got concerns about how we're handling your data under Canadian law, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
We don't hold onto your information forever. Generally, we'll keep your data for as long as you're an active guest or have an account with us, plus a reasonable period afterward for legal and business purposes. Financial records stick around longer because, well, taxes and accounting regulations. Once we don't need your info anymore, we'll either delete it or anonymize it so it can't be traced back to you.
Our services aren't directed at kids under 16, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you're a parent and think your kid has given us their info without your consent, please reach out and we'll delete it promptly.
Our website might have links to other sites - maybe local attractions or partner businesses. Just so you know, we're not responsible for their privacy practices. Once you click away from our site, their rules apply. We'd recommend checking out their privacy policies too.
Every now and then, we might need to update this privacy policy - maybe because of new regulations, changes in how we operate, or improvements to our services. When we do make changes, we'll post the updated version here with a new "Last Updated" date at the top. For major changes, we'll give you a heads up via email or a notice on our website. It's worth checking back occasionally to stay in the loop.
We're here to help. If anything in this policy isn't clear, or if you've got questions about how we handle your information, don't hesitate to reach out.
